Maybe throw in how it impacted the working class with their inhuman treatment. It feels as if 20 volumes of manga development were compressed to fit in one feature length movie.
Its hard to believe the most expensive Japanese project that took over 10 years to make could have such a lousy and boring plot. Gorgeous animation couldnt make up for completely mediocre story, bland characters with no development and disappointing resolution. Steam Boy feels as if it was a movie version of a TV series, where the basic story is told in a condensed manor. This makes sense as the 1860s was the start of tensions between the European nations in terms of power. Sorry, I just love talking about history). Im a girl, but Im totally okay with it. PC into pop culture just isnt my thing you know). I dont like it when women in historical genres are characterised masculine without any reasonable explanation, but to prove a PC point. Therefore for Scarlet to act snobbish, know it all and damn right annoying was refreshing for me. I bet she has to act like that because shes been living in mens world where her voice isnt heard as a child. So in order to do so she acts like how the people around her expect her to act, but be demanding to get her own way. She also acted unintentionally as a voice of reason for Ray to trigger his own beliefs about science during their argument. ![]() Though the guys only talked about humanity and the good of science philosophically, those were only an argument of ideas. Whereas Scarlet voiced the good of weapons of profit and layer on calls it wicked after she walks thorough the battlefield. Because she was the only female main protagonist in the film, her comments about humanity gave a massive impact with only a line. You dont need ten more female characters to accomplish that shell shock. Also, if you think she acted too fragile and only thing she did was to turn the switch on, think again. She becomes a pilot at the end during the ending credits segment. Especially Ray and Scarlet who are children and are thrown into a world where you have to grow up and make your own decisions in the adults world. This anime does justice and You clearly see that they are English (because most of the characters are Londoners and Mancunian) my favourite animation in this film was when the vapours froze to ice. The detail the animators went through with colours was just gorgeous. ![]() If you wanna learn animation, definitely check this film out. ![]()
